Prepare Your Car for the Winter at Valley BMW

December 1st, 2023 by

Although it may be hard to believe, winter is almost here. Winter in and around the Central
Valley brings freezing temperatures and unpredictable precipitation, which makes it one of the
most dangerous seasons for driving. Here are some of the best ways to prepare your BMW
vehicle for better handling and safety during the upcoming winter season.

Book A Service Appointment
Get your BMW vehicle ready for winter by bringing it in to get serviced at Valley BMW. During
your BMW vehicle service, our technicians will check your vehicle’s battery for charge and look
for evidence of corrosion, change your oil if necessary, as well as test/service your brakes and
change brake fluid. Be sure to schedule your BMW vehicle service appointment before wintery
weather is in the forecast!

Check Your Wipers and Tires
Along with scheduling a service appointment, there are a few things you can easily check in
your BMW vehicle on your own. Test out your windshield wipers for streaks and screeching
sounds. If those occur as your wipers move, it’s likely time to replace them.
Also, remember to fill up your windshield fluid with a formula made for the season.
Next, you can use a tire pressure gauge to measure the psi of all four tires to make sure they’re
at the manufacturer’s recommended level. The tire pressure in most passenger cars should be
between 32 to 35 psi, but levels can vary based on vehicle/trim, so you should read the owner’s
manual located in the glove compartment for exact measurements.

For a safer drive on roads with winter conditions, you may want to consider purchasing and
installing a set of winter tires. These tires provide a better grip on the road and offer better
traction, handling, and control in low temperatures.

Emergency Preparedness Kit
You never know when an emergency may occur, and emergencies on the road during winter
can be especially dangerous without proper essentials. Slippery conditions and snow build up
can cause accidents and lengthy delays. A first-aid kit is essential for every vehicle. If you don’t
have one you can purchase one at your local grocery or retail store. In addition to a first-aid kit,
you should have some extra blankets, gloves, an ice/snow brush, flashlight, radio, and some
snacks and water in the back of your BMW vehicle.

Preparing your BMW before winter begins will ensure the safety of you and your passengers,
while maintaining your vehicle’s handling during the winter months. Schedule a service at Valley
BMW to get the process started!
